“I very much need to be dead.”
These are the chilling words left behind by a man who had everything to live for—but took his own life. In the aftermath, his widow, Jane Hawk, does what all her grief, fear, and fury demand: find the truth, no matter what.
People of talent and accomplishment, people admired and happy and sound of mind, have been committing suicide in surprising numbers. When Jane seeks to learn why, she becomes the most-wanted fugitive in America. Her powerful enemies are protecting a secret so important—so terrifying—that they will exterminate anyone in their way.
A middle of the road read for me. I felt this took a long time to get going, picked up just at the point I was about ready to give up and then ended without having really solved anything.
This book had the potential to be great, the ‘Dollhouse’ type technology that could wipe personalities, rich conspirators, and an off the grid FBI Agent. The ingredients were all there for a a great thriller but they didn’t come together as they should have done. Some of Jane’s motivations didn’t hang together easily either and the book felt like more of a chore than a pleasure on the whole.
Unfortunately not a series I’ll be reading more of.
