We all have our favourite authors, the ones who make us squeal with joy when they announce a new book. Or the ones who we reach for when we’re sad and need cheering up or comforting with a familiar story. These are some of mine.
Eddings will always have a place in my favourite authors list. Others may come and go but he’s stuck in my heart and my psyche. His books were the books that lead my transition from children’s to adult reading. I read them because my Dad loves them and had them in the bookcase at home. I devoured them.
Garion, Polgara, Belgareth et al are who I turn to when I need a comfort blanket book. The Belgariad and Malloreon have pride of place on my bookcase. Sparhawk is there too. I’m still sad that will never be another new Eddings book many years on from his passing.
I love Val’s books. But I confess a particular fondness for Tony Hill and Carol Jordan. I’m always pleased when a new one in the series is announced and wait impatiently for it.
A relative newcomer to the list with only two books. However I have adored both of them. Mark Watney is a superb creation and Artemis was an excellent read as well. Andy Weir is an author I hope we’ll see much more of in the future.
Not as well known as some of the others on this list but I adore Angie’s books. They’re funny, touching, paranormal and adorably bonkers. Her Southern Ghost Hunter series is a particular favourite of mine.
One of the only authors who’s next book I’ll automatically pre-order. Laini’s prose is gorgeous. Her world building is amazing and her books shatter my heart into tiny little pieces before (mostly) fixing it right back up again.
There are of course other brilliant authors writing wonderful books that I enjoy but these represent a set of my go to favourites.
Who would be on your list?
