While on a journey to the famous city of Thronehold, Volke Savan learns of the Sovereign Dragon Tournament. The massive celebration involves hundreds of arcanists competing for fame and glory, and Volke is determined to win.
Dark forces dwell in the city, however, and rumours of the legendary world serpent spread amongst the shadows. Whoever bonds with a god-like mystical creature will gain magic beyond compare, and the queen’s guards suspect cutthroats will use the chaos of the tournament to hide their plotting.
Unsure of who to trust, Volke investigates the terrible rumours while advancing in the ranks of the tournament. Unfortunately, the true villain may be closer than he realizes…
As you may have noticed from some of my recent posts, I love this series! Book three absolutely held its own and was in fact even better than the second instalment of this series.
Coliseum Arcanist had it all – high action, character development and we got to meet lots of other mystical creatures along the way.
Shami Stovall has built such a rich world with such engaging characters that I don’t want to leave it – I have gone straight from one book to the next and had book four loaded on my Kindle as soon as I had finished this one.
There were moments during Coliseum Aracnist where I had my heart in my mouth and was willing the characters to be OK. Volke is still the same kind man he started as but he’s grown as well. It’s so lovely to see good character development. I adore Luthair as well.
It was nice to learn more about our supporting cast as well, loved the proper addition of Fain as well. Adelgis continues to be super interesting, as is his father, there is definitely more to come out about Adelgis and his family – it feels like everything we learn about him, the more questions it raises.
Coliseum is a long book but it didn’t feel like it as I sped through. I haven’t found a series I’ve loved this much for years! I’m so grateful The Write Reads invited me on the blog tour for Knightmare Arcanist or I wouldn’t have discovered this wonderful book world.
