Books I have on Pre-Order

I don’t always pre-order books, but there are some that I just can’t resist knowing will show up at my door or on my Kindle on publication day. At the moment I have three books on pre order, all publishing in the last couple of months of this year. I’ll need to take a look and see if there are any that really grab me for 2021 soon.

World Serpent Arcanist by Shami Stovall

Volke Savan has reunited with the Frith Guild just in time to help fight the Second Ascension, a group of power-hungry dastards bent on controlling the newly created god creatures. The world serpent is the first on their list, and if the Second Ascension manages to harness its power, the world will forever be changed for the worse.

But the Frith Guild has another plan. They intend to beat the Second Ascension to the world serpent and have it bond with someone trustworthy—a mysterious man who Guildmaster Eventide believes will usher the world into an era of peace.

As Volke struggles to improve his magic, and also become a mentor for a new knightmare arcanist, he realizes that this may be one adventure the guild never makes it back from…

The fifth book in the brilliant Frith Chronicals, I devoured the four available books in this series back-to-back earlier this year. There was no way I could resist pre-ordering this one. As it’s a Kindle pre-order it will pop onto my Kindle as soon as it’s published and I can’t wait!

World Serpent Arcanist will be published 10th December 2020

Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline

Days after Oasis founder James Halliday’s contest, Wade Watts makes a discovery that changes everything. Hidden within Halliday’s vault, waiting for his heir to find, lies a technological advancement that will once again change the world and make the Oasis a thousand times more wondrous, and addictive, than even Wade dreamed possible. With it comes a new riddle and a new quest. A last Easter egg from Halliday, hinting at a mysterious prize. And an unexpected, impossibly powerful, and dangerous new rival awaits, one who will kill millions to get what he wants. Wade’s life and the future of the Oasis are again at stake, but this time the fate of humanity also hangs in the balance.

I’m so super excited to get my hand on this book! Ready Player One is one my absolute favourites, I love the sheer geeky-ness of it. I hope Ready Player Two lives up to it (always a risk with a sequel to a much loved book). I’ve ordered a hardback of this one so will be watching for the postman on publication day!

Ready Player Two will be published 24th November 2020

Christmas is Murder by Val McDermid

From an irresponsible baron whose body is discovered beneath a silver birch tree, to an author who is haunted by the spiteful presence of a jealous writing partner, the characters McDermid conjures are enigmatic and dangerous, never above suspicion.

Follow Tony Hill and Carol Jordan as they track a deadly killer who is preparing to strike on Christmas Day, and lose yourself in a festive exclusive – a recently unearthed case for a classic detective duo, set as the lights are going out across Europe.

These evocative, atmospheric tales will shock and delight. This is the perfect book to curl up with as the frosty winter draws in and each night gets darker than the last, written by one of our greatest living crime writers.

This one is a very short pre-order period, which means I don’t have to wait long for it to arrive (another physical copy pre-order) I only became aware of this one the other day when I saw a tweet from Val McDermid herself about it. It’s short stories which aren’t usually my preferred read but it has a story from my favourite of her long running series included and I do love her writing.

Christmas is Murder will be published 5th November 2020.
