TBR January 2021

Here we are at the start of another month (and a new year) so it must be time for a new TBR post as well! I’ve set myself a 50 book challenge again for this year (missed by 1 with 49 last year) and although I read more for the pleasure of it that to hit a target I would like to make it this year!

I’m going to carry on as I have been with a TBR of books I feel like reading now when I set it but I don’t stick rigidly to it if I’m not feeling it when I get to that book. I do find a monthly TBR helps though for those times when I don’t know what to pick up next. I often leave a gap for a ‘not on the TBR’ choice as well. Some months I just find I read more than others. Anyway, time for this months list of books I think….

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton

An astonishing technique for recovering and cloning dinosaur DNA has been discovered. Now humankind’s most thrilling fantasies have come true. Creatures extinct for eons roam Jurassic Park with their awesome presence and profound mystery, and all the world can visit them—for a price. Until something goes wrong. . . .

This book has been on my ‘I’ll read it one day’ list for a long time. I was lucky enough to be given the absolutely gorgeous Folio Society edition as a Christmas gift and I’ve jumped right into it – very enjoyable so far!

Girl A by Abigail Dean

‘Girl A,’ she said. ‘The girl who escaped. If anyone was going to make it, it was going to be you.’

Lex Gracie doesn’t want to think about her family. She doesn’t want to think about growing up in her parents’ House of Horrors. And she doesn’t want to think about her identity as Girl A: the girl who escaped. When her mother dies in prison and leaves Lex and her siblings the family home, she can’t run from her past any longer. Together with her sister, Evie, Lex intends to turn the House of Horrors into a force for good. But first she must come to terms with her six siblings – and with the childhood they shared.

I have an e-ARC of this from Netgalley, there’s been a lot of hype about this one so I’m hoping it lives up to it.

The Summer Job by Lizzie Dent

Have you ever imagined running away from your life? Well Birdy Finch didn’t just imagine it. She did it. Which might’ve been an error. And the life she’s run into? Her best friend, Heather’s.

The only problem is, she hasn’t told Heather. Actually there are a few other problems… Can Birdy carry off a summer at a luxury Scottish hotel pretending to be her best friend (who incidentally is a world-class wine expert)?

And can she stop herself from falling for the first man she’s ever actually liked (but who thinks she’s someone else)?

A physical ARC of this is sitting on my bookshelf looking pretty (great colour choices on the cover) and it looks like just the type of cheerful book for a dull January.
