Blog Tour and Book Review: The Aether Ones by Wendi Coffman-Porter

Leilani Falconi is a top agent for the Imperial Investigative Service, tasked with policing the veil between two realities. Long ago, the Great Sundering tore the universe into two mirrored halves; aether space, which progressed using magical energy or eldrich, and kuldain, which advanced via electromagnetic technology.

But now a series of suspicious deaths stretching back more than a decade has the agent trapped directly between secretive bureaucracies and their peoples. If she can’t solve the mysterious crimes in time, existence as she knows it could erupt into chaos.

Thanks to The Write Reads for inviting me to take part in this tour. This book is an engaging and intriguing mix of Science Fiction, Crime and a pinch of Fantasy for good measure.

The book starts with us essentially chucked right into the action with no idea why Leilani our main character finds herself in a conscription line, clearly there is more going on than meets the eye but it takes a little while for us to be let in on the rest of it.

Leilani was an interesting protagonist who was smart, skilled and absolutely made her own rules and way through the world while somehow doing her job and managing to stay likeable.

Right from the start this book maintains an incredibly fast pace – sometime it even felt a little too fast. I read a lot of SFF but despite that I still struggled sometimes to keep up with the amount of information and world building thrown in here.

The world itself was rich and the divide between the two sides that had split in the ‘great sundering’ was clever. The action scenes were fast and furious adding to the feeling of speed in the pacing.

A fun, high octane read that kept me engaged.
