Book Review: Star Trek: Boldly Go Vol1 by Mike Johnson, Tony Shasteen (Illustrations), Davide Mastrolonardo (Colours)

All-new series following the adventures of Captain Kirk and the iconic crew! New worlds! New species! New ships! And a new danger unlike anything the Federation has encountered before! Boldly go into a new era of STAR TREK! Collects issues #1–6

This was a really fun graphic novel. Set in the period of time that the Enterprise is being rebuilt after it was destroyed in the Star Trek Beyond movie (so Kelvin Universe timeline). The crew of the enterprise are dispersed to different ships or shore leave but come back together to face a new threat…

The story was great (and I was delighted by the villain) and the images were spot on. I enjoy graphic novels more when I don’t have to struggle to tell characters apart and this was spot on – possibly helped by the fact that we are already familiar with the main cast from the films.

A fun romp in the Star Trek Universe, I sped through this in one sitting and will definitely be picking up more in the series.
