Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor – Illumicrate Editions #WyrdAndWonder

Errand requiring immediate attention. Come.

The note was on vellum, pierced by the talons of the almost-crow that delivered it. Karou read the message. ‘He never says please’, she sighed, but she gathered up her things.

When Brimstone called, she always came.

In general, Karou has managed to keep her two lives in balance. On the one hand, she’s a seventeen-year-old art student in Prague; on the other, errand-girl to a monstrous creature who is the closest thing she has to family. Raised half in our world, half in ‘Elsewhere’, she has never understood Brimstone’s dark work – buying teeth from hunters and murderers – nor how she came into his keeping. She is a secret even to herself, plagued by the sensation that she isn’t whole.

Now the doors to Elsewhere are closing, and Karou must choose between the safety of her human life and the dangers of a war-ravaged world that may hold the answers she has always sought.

I absolutely adore this series where the concept of Angels and Demons are played with. Laini Taylor’s writing is simply magical and to story draws you in from the very first page. It was one of those series that I came to a little late and the second book was out. I read the first and immediately picked up the second from the library it was that good, then had a very impatient wait for the third to publish.

Despite that and the fact its still one of my go to recommends for people I didn’t actually own my own copies. When I saw Illumicrate we doing a special edition set of the series I jumped on it and I’m glad I did as they are absolutely gorgeous. In fact there is so much about them that’s beautiful its hard to know which bit should be on display. Even naked these editions are so pretty and I love the quotes that have been chosen.

Hidden on the back of the jacket there is also the most amazing art by Jim Di Bartolo. The characters are really bought to life and really they deserve to be framed only then you couldn’t see the stunning front covers that were designed by Peter Strain all of which I love although I think Brimstone is my favourite on book 1.

If you haven’t read these wonderful books yet I highly recommend them and I’m definitely due a re-read on them now I have these stunning copies.
